AREA ( 1,710 SQ.KMS.)

Location:

Festivals:

Langtang National    Park encloses the catchments of two major river systems:  one draining west into the Trisuli   River and the other east  to the Sun Koshi river.

Some  fo the best examples of graded climate conditions in the Central   Himalaya are found here. The complex topography and geography  together with the varied climatic patterns have enabled a wide spectrum of  vegetation type to be established. These include small areas of subtropical  forest (below 1000 m), temperate oak and pine forests at mid-elevation, with  alpine scrub and grasses giving way to bare rocks and snow.

Oaks,  chir pine, maple, fir, blue pine, hemlock, spruce and various species of  rhododendron make up the main forest species.

Along  with the existing forest cover, approx. 25 % of the total area provides habitat  for a wide range of animals including wild dog, red panda, pika, muntjack, musk  deer, Himalayan black bear, Himalayan tahr, ghoral, serow, rhesus monkey and common  langur.

The  Trisuli-Bhote Koshi forms an important route for birds on spring and autumn  migration between India  and Tibet.

About  45 villages ( 846 house-holds = ca. 4500 people) are situated within the park  boundaries, but they are not under park jurisdiction.
In  total, about 3000 households (ca. 16,200 people) depend on the park resources  for wood and firewood.

Culturally  the area is mixed, the home of several ethnic groups which have influenced the  natural enviroment over the centuries.

Trekking in Langtang Reviews

“What a service, what an experience!” General Sales Manager N.V. Sky Climber Europe S.A.

Email: kristof.rombouts@mac.com

As a second time visitor to Nepal and frequent traveler in the Indian Subcontinent I already had a couple of good contacts in Nepal. Although because of some slow responses from my old contacts, I started looking for alternatives...

Adventure Discovery Treks - and Rabi in special - were the mostHoward & Carenprofessional trekking office I found on the internet: Rabi always gave an immediate and most accurate reply to all questions and made some very valuable remarks and suggestions wherever possible to improve the trip!

On this trip - The Helambu Circuit - , I took my parents (both 60yrs old) and my girlfriend. This means that we had 2 different categories of fitness ;-)

Rabi organized the whole trip and set us up with a guide and 2 porters. The guide, Gopal, is a young and very energetic guy who really knows how to pay attention to the right people in a group... Both my parents were raving how good he was and how much he helped and motivated them to bring this trekking (a topper on their bucket list) to a good end!

During the trekking, everything was extremely well organized: accommodation, food as well as the overall planning (keeping in mind some flexibility that is required!!).

The food was just superb: any other trekking I've done before (being in Nepal or anywhere else), you always got some food served without any real choice. On this trip with Discovery Adventure Trek, we always received the menu and could make our own choice. It didn't even matter whether you were ordering 1 or 4 dishes... they just want to see happy and healthy customers!

For my parents this was definitely one of the highlights in their travel career! I also look back to this trip as a remarkable experience with top quality service from Adventure Discovery Treks.

Rabi, Gopal and rest of the team, you've done a great job!! What I heard from other people I met that went on a trekking with you, this was not a unique case... Keep up the good work!!! I hope to be back next spring for the Manaslu trekking!!!

Stay in touch!
