British Gurkha soldier summit Everest2017-06-08 13:10:54


End of climbing season of spring in Nepal comes at the end; the Gurkha army soldiers have made history standing at the top of the world’s highest peak Mt. Everest twice along with reaching on top of other two mountains higher than 8,000 meters in Nepal within time period of 5 days.

According to the expedition team organizer Nirmal Purja who is also permanent resident of Myagdi district, reached twice Everest and Lhotse and Mt. Makalu.  Tourism department officer Khadananda Adhikari also mentioned that Purja scaled world’s highest peak on May 15 and 27.

Purja also scaled Mt Lhotse (8,516m) peak on 27th May within less than eight hours. Along with few Sherpa helpers he also climbed Mt Makalu (8,485m) on May 30 which is world’s 5th highest peak. Department of Tourism has asked to provide summit details to issue certificates. Purja is the first man to summit above 8000 meters peaks within 5 days including Mt. Everest.

Purja was also one of the rescuers who helped other climbers in Need to decent safely from Everest death zone in 2016. He climbed Mt Dhaulagiri (8,167m) in 2014. According to reports, Gurkha soldiers besides placing the serving on the top of mt Everest,  Gurkah Everest Expedition was organized this year to train the nucleus of instructors for next generation of Gurkha climbers as well as to commemorate 200 years of loyal service to the British crown.

Meanwhile the British man who was suffering from cancer reached the top of Everest. Ian Toothill who has diagnosed with blood cancer in 2015 June and told he might have only 4 months to live but after two years he summated world’s tallest peak. Once he summated he celebrated by planting a flag for Sheffield United in the snow.

He informed that climbing the world highest peak is was his big dream from childhood. He also wanted to cancer patients that although you have problems go on with your dream which will comes true as the time passes.
