Local municipality to collect levy in Everest2017-10-05 10:06:48

Everest trek region is under the command of Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality after the local election recently held in Nepal. The Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality made decision of collect 2000 rupees from each trekker who enters the Everest region from October 1.

As per executive council meeting held on July 19 started levying entrée fees for foreign national, the rural municipality officials said. Dissimilar tourism organization including trekking companies requested not to levying the tourists but to no avail.

Notifying on October 3 the municipality informed that the Trekking Agencies Association of Nepal (TAAN) and Nepal Tourism Board (NTB)’s Trekkers Information Management System (TIMS) is no longer valid for Everest region. However TAAN and NTB held meeting with municipality officials and agreed not to collect levy.

In order to settle the issues both parties agreed to help another meeting. They were planning to find alternative ways and TAAN President informed them the certain percentage of TIMS amount may send rural community too.

Trekking Agencies Association of Nepal has urged Nepal Tourism Board and other related bodies to settle the issues earliest its possible.

The trekkers someone who treks in Everest region should pay three different entrée fees in Everest Base Camp Trek as per new rules. Everest National Park fees, TIMs fees and Rural municipality entrée fees are the compulsory fees now a days. Over 600 trekkers each day during the months of September, October and November enters the Everest region.
