Locals Vie to manage ACAP2014-12-14 12:52:40

Locals around the region of the Annapurna Area Conservation Project (ACAP) have exerted pressure on the state to hand over management responsibility of the ACAP to them.

The pressure comes at the term given to the Nationals Trust for Nature Conservation ends next month.

Locals are eager to take over responsibility of its management, said a local Tej Gurung. The reservation areas cover 57 VDCs of Myagdi, Manang, kaski and Lamjung districts.

Prior to this, Locals submitted a memorandum to lawmakers representing these districts with their request.

About 10,000 tourists visit the area annually bringing in revenue worth Rs 200 million.
