Tourists throng Annapurna region despite Nilofar warning2014-11-02 13:52:39

Despite the wide warnings that the Cyclone Nilofar can affect weather patterns in West Nepal, the number of tourists visiting the Annapurna region has not decreased.

Around 1,000 trekkers, porters and guides have entered the Annapurna circuit from Lamjung in a week from October 23 to 29, according to Tourists Informations Center, Beshishar.

Tourism entrepreneurs of manang district, Binod Gurung, said around 80 to 100 tourists are visiting the Upper Mustang region on a daily basis. He also shared his confidence that weather in the upper  part remains clear throughout next week.
The terror of the Cyclone, however, still loom, large as lower parts of manang and Lamjung districts underwent frequent change in weather patterns. Locals have reported have reported numerous drizzles in a day and decrease in temperature.

District Administration Offices in Manang and Lamjung have alerted the trekkers not to take risk and consider weather updates while endeavoring trekking.

But, the tourist information center in Beshishar reported that tourists are likely to ignore the notice.
At least 43 persons were killed in blizzards and avalanches, triggered by the Cyclone Hudhud, in the Annapurna region in the third week of October.
